aloha, maui!

^^ mama's fish house!

bye, bye, maui! forget us not!

flashing back to our time in Hawaii!! because Maui mems are some of the best. we loved getting to experience everything Waikiki beach and Honolulu had in store for us but Maui was more our speed! we arrived at the Honolulu airport about an hour before our flight and only in Hawaii would they let you on an earlier flight with ten minutes to spare:)  which we happily obliged, of course. until we walked out to the tiniest plane we have ever seen. eek!  and we have been on tiny before! a few years ago for our honeymoon. but this one was even smaller, seating about eight people. so we weren't quite sure what to make of it right away  but in the end we really enjoyed it. it was so beautiful to see everything from up above [especialyl Diamond Head!]  soon enough we arrived [safely!!!] in Maui :) yay. we rented a car which i recommend! everything is more spread out so it made getting around to explore so much easier.

we stayed at the Hyatt Regency and were properly laid with the most beautiful flowers. and because tangible memories are my thing, i actually brought mine back and dried it. which was no easy task! and probably not my best flower drying job considering it was hard to cart on top of a carry on and bunch of luggage but i did it :) we loved the Hyatt Regency and the fact that a bunch of other hotels were on the same strip.  it made trying fun new restaurants and shops easier to get to on foot. and make aloha hour [which they call happy hour. and now so do we :)]  and of course, the beaches and pools! which allowed us to fully bask in our vacactionness.

one of my favorite nights was the luau! we knew we had to go to one while there and i am so glad we did.  i am still in awe of the Polynesian dancing and fire twirling! how in the world? all the while the sun was setting in the background. it was really pretty incredible [my iphone agrees! so many sunsety pictures that i cant bring myself to delete.] plus you just can't go wrong with an all you can eat dinner buffet. and deserts! might i add.

a few other places we ventured off to... mama's fish house! it seemed like everyone we talked to who had been to Maui recommended we try it. and nowww, we get it! it has so much character and so much beauty [i can not stress that enough!!] and the food, while more expensive, was so great. it really is a must. [it sort of reminded me of the show bloodline on netflix! yes? without all the dark draaaama, of course. no drama in sunny Hawaii i am sure of it]  we also made sure to explore Lahiana a few mornings/afternoons for some coffee and fun happy hours. it's a great a historic town not too far from the resort and has a bunch of fun shops and restaurants when you are looking for a break from the resort spots.

soon enough [too soon!!] our last day arrived and we headed to the smallest of airports to wait for the even smaller plane to arrive and just as it did,  a rainbow appeared! i can't think of a better send off! except little did we know our Hawaii fun would be extended for twenty-four more hours back in Honolulu.... to be continued ;)

a few Maui recommendations:
Mama's Fish House - you'll be so happy you did!

Leiani's - so convenient if you are staying at the Hyatt or the other string of hotels! and the food was so. good. [hula pie, please!]

Fleetwood's on Front St. - located in Lahiana and had a great great live band and fun happy hour! [owned by Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac : not a bad spot to own a restaurant, mick!!]
